Journal Drawings 2011

[Back to Gallery]

For some time now I have abandoned the camera while traveling in preference for the direct and highly observational practice of drawing.

Each journal drawing is dated and timed, often incorporating small items as reminders of materials, textures and colours.

The format of these drawings is indebted to the early Tasmanian observers of the 1840’s such as John Skinner Prout and Louisa Anne Meredith. Both artists would approach their own journeys by methodically recording new environments in the manner of the Picturesque, the fashionable drawing style of the day.
